Individuals and Ecology is a podcast that attempts to locate ecological discourse towards Individuals & Local Communities. We decided to work on this project because, throughout the course we were introduced to the ways to locate ecology with society—which was a useful lens to begin with. However, in the end society is, as Talcott Parsons says, “a total complex of human relationships in so far as they grow out of the action in terms of means-end relationship intrinsic or symbolic.”

Adding on to it these actions are taken by individuals. Therefore, we decided to do a project, which attempts to look at ecology, while focussing on the individuals and communities. We recorded two episodes, where we spoke with leading experts on ecological issues deeply connected with individuals like property rights and climate change.

Now coming to specific episodes. In the first episode we spoke with Mohammad Anas Khan, on a unique lens to look at the environment, which is called the ‘Terracotta Environmentalism’, an approach that aims at including human beings when talking about ecology.

Anas is a law graduate and works as a Project Associate with Centre for Civil Society. He is also an alumnus of the Property and Environment Research Centre (Bozeman, Montana). His interest areas include public policy, legal theory and terracotta environmentalism.

In the second episode we are speaking with Julian Morris on how the natural tendency of entrepreneurs and innovators to identify cost-effective as well as efficient ways to produce goods and services can be harnessed to tackle climate change.

Julian Morris is a Senior Fellow at Reason Foundation, a Senior Scholar at the International Center for Law and Economics, and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. The author of dozens of scholarly articles and the editor of several books, Julian is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Energy and Environment and sits on several non-profit boards and advisory boards. Julian’s current research focuses on sustainable development, climate change, energy policy, and financial regulation.

From 2011 to 2018, Julian was Vice President of Research at Reason Foundation. From 2001 to 2010, he was Executive Director of the International Policy Network and a Visiting Professor at the University of Buckingham. From 1994 to 2001, he ran the environment and technology programme at the Institute of Economic Affairs in London.

Julian graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in economics and subsequently obtained Masters degrees from University College London and Cambridge University, and a law degree from the University of Westminster.

The podcast episodes are also available on major podcast platforms such as spotify, google podcast, iTunes, Breaker etc. Hope you have a good time listening to these.
